Christiane Oelze is a German operatic soprano born in Germany in 1963. Oelze studied voice at the Cologne University of Music under Klesie Kelly-Moog and Erna Westenberger before attending masterclasses with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. They performed regularly with the Berlin Philharmonic and the conductor Sir Simon Rattle. Oelze has appeared as a soloist at festivals including the BBC Proms, Glyndebourne, the Salzburg Festival, and Tanglewood. They are recognized for their interpretations of the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and compositions from the Classical Modern period. Oelze has also performed works banned by the Nazi regime, including pieces by Hanns Eisler, Kurt Weill, and Viktor Ullmann. Their discography includes 70 CD and DVD productions, such as the recordings Ein deutsches Requiem (2008) and Italienisches Liederbuch (2009). Their recording of the Mahler Symphony No. 4 (2006) received the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Oelze served as a professor of singing at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf between 2003 and 2008.
