Megumi Shiina, born 1959‑08‑13 in Sapporo as Chisa Oikawa, is a Japanese singer‑songwriter whose career began in the mid‑1980s after graduating from Sapporo Teine High School and Shishū Junior College. She debuted on 21 March 1986 with the single "Konwa Wa ANGEL", a track that quickly became a hit in television dramas and commercials, establishing her as a warm‑voiced vocalist. Megumi Shiina’s first studio album, MISS YOU (1986), was followed by Le Port (1986) and W CONCERTO (1987) under TDK and King Records. The late 1980s saw releases such as " LOVE IS ALL ~Ai wo Kikasete~ "(1989), Dolce (1989), VOLAGE (1990), and the live‑album Because of the rain (1991). Her music gained visibility through theme songs for popular media, notably "Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket" and "Janus no Kagami" for television dramas. In the 1990s she issued albums Glass No Tsuki (1992), Lovers (1994), and Cherish (1995), and compiled greatest‑hits collections Best Selection (1995) and Best Collection 20 (1988). Later projects included the self‑cover album Wedding Songs (2000) and the compilation Kimi To Boku Wo Tsunagumono (2016). Throughout her career, Megumi Shiina has written lyrics for other artists and worked as a voice trainer, contributing to the development of emerging singers.
