Timothy Alan Patrick Rose, known as Tim Rose and born September 23, 1940, in Washington D.C., was an American singer-songwriter. He formed his first band, the Singing Strings, with Scott McKenzie. In 1962, Rose met Cass Elliot and John Brown, forming the Big 3, which later included Jim Hendricks. They recorded two albums, The Big 3 (1963) and Live at the Recording Studio (1964). Rose's solo career began in 1968 with his self-titled album, featuring "Come Away Melinda" and "Long Time Man". His versions of "Hey Joe" and "Morning Dew" became standards covered by numerous artists. In 1966, Jimi Hendrix saw Rose performing at Cafe Wha? in New York City, leading to Hendrix's own hit version of "Hey Joe". Rose continued to release albums throughout his career, including Haunted (1997) and American Son (2002). Rose passed away on September 24, 2002 in London, England.
