Takao Kisugi, born Takao Kisugi in Tokyo, Japan, on November 16, 1950, is a Japanese singer-songwriter and composer. Kisugi debuted as a singer-songwriter in 1976 with his single “Asai Yume” and debut studio album Asai Yume. He frequently collaborates with his sister, lyricist Etsuko Kisugi. He gained prominence in 1977 after composing “My Luxury Night” for Hatsumi Shibata. In 1981, Kisugi achieved a major hit as a performer with his single “Yume no Tochu”, which peaked at number 4 on the Oricon chart, while Hiroko Yakushimaru's cover version “Sailor Fuku to Kikanju” reached Number 1. His 1981 single “Goodbye Day” also became a smash hit. As a composer, Kisugi wrote hit songs for other artists, including Junko Ohashi's “Silhouette Romance” and Akina Nakamori's “Second Love”, winning Best Composer at the Japan Composition Award in 1982. In 1986, he released the single “Ashita Hareru ka”, which served as the ending theme for Maison Ikkoku. In 1991, he collaborated with Gilbert O'Sullivan on the single “What a Way (To Show I Love You)” and the duet “Can't Think Straight”. His compilation albums include Goodbye Day - Takao Kisugi Greatest Hits (1989), The Best of Takao Kisugi: Yume no Tochu ni... (1997), Best 10 (2005), Essential Best (2007), and The Premium Best (2009).
