Izrael is a Polish reggae band formed in Warsaw in 1983 by Robert Brylewski and Paweł “Kelner” Rozwadowski. The group became one of the pioneers of reggae in Poland, making its live debut at Warsaw’s Hybrydy club in April 1983. Their first studio recordings were made that year and released in 1985 on the debut album Biada, Biada, Biada, preceded by the single “Rastaman Nie Kłamie.” Izrael continued with Nabij Faję (1986) and Duchowa Rewolucja Vol. 1 (1987), while material from the latter sessions was later released as Duchowa Rewolucja Vol. 2 (1991). In 1990, the band traveled to London to record at Mad Professor’s Ariwa studio, resulting in the album 1991 (1991), one of the defining releases of their career. After extensive touring, Izrael disbanded in 1995. The group reunited in 2006, initially performing under the name Magnetosfera, and released the studio album Dża Ludzie in 2008. Their collaboration with Mad Professor continued with Izrael Meets Mad Professor & Joe Ariwa (2010). Izrael remained active until 2018, following the death of founding member Robert Brylewski.
