Finsterforst is a German folk metal band from the Black Forest. The group was formed in late 2004 in Freiburg im Breisgau. The current lineup includes Olli Berlin, Johannes Joseph, Simon Käflein, David Schuldis, Tobias Weinreich, Cornelius Heck, and Sebastian Scherrer. In 2007, they released their debut album Weltenkraft. With …zum Tode hin (2009), Rastlos, and Mach Dich Frei! (2012), the band continued to develop their folk and pagan metal sound. Later, they integrated these elements more closely with black metal, post-metal, and orchestral arrangements. Finsterforst refers to this style as “Black Forest Metal.” Swiss musician Sevan Kirder, formerly of Eluveitie, contributed to several recordings. The album Zerfall reached No. 75 on the Swiss album charts in 2019. With Jenseits, the band released an EP in 2023 featuring a roughly 39-minute-long work. Their sixth studio album, Still, followed in 2026. In addition to original songs, it also includes cover versions of songs by Immortal and Pink Floyd.
