Hammers of Misfortune is an American heavy metal band from San Francisco. The group was formed in the mid-1990s as Unholy Cadaver by John Cobbett and Chewy Marzolo. They released Demo No. 1 (1998) before changing their name to Hammers of Misfortune in 2000. Their debut album, The Bastard (2001), was followed by The August Engine (2003) and The Locust Years (2006). After signing with Metal Blade Records, the band released 17th Street (2011). Their recordings include the double album Fields/Church of Broken Glass (2008) and the album Dead Revolution (2016). In 2022, the group returned with the album Overtaker.
