Dunkelschön is a German medieval music and folk-rock band founded as a studio project in 2002 by Michael Kaiser and Vanessa Istvan, before forming as a complete live band in January 2004. The group released its debut studio album, Torenvart, in 2006. They gained wider recognition with their second album, Irfind (2007), which was named Album of the Month by Zillo magazine. The band's lineup evolved over the years, with notable members including Monika Klüpfel on cello from 2008, and André Straub on drums from 2009 to 2012. Their subsequent studio albums include Nemeton (2008), Katharsis (2009), Zauberwort (2011)—which featured rockier elements—Vergehen & Werden (2014), and Abraxas (2017). The ensemble toured across Europe, performing at major festivals including the Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Castlefest, and Wacken Open Air.
