Godwijn June Orlando Ray Rollocks, known professionally as Pappa Bear, was born in Curaçao, Dutch Antilles. He began his career as a chef, completing his apprenticeship as the top student and becoming a Chef de Cuisine. In the early 1990s, he assisted his sister Daisy Rollocks, better known as Daisy Dee, with her music production before joining the group Black Male, with whom he released three songs. Pappa Bear signed with Booya Music in 1996, a label founded by Toni Cottura, Bülent Aris, and Holger Storm. His breakthrough came in the fall of 1997 with "Cherish", a cover of Kool & The Gang's classic, featuring Jan van der Toorn. This international hit was followed by another successful collaboration with van der Toorn on "When the Rain Begins to Fall" in March 1998. His debut album What’s My Name was released in May 1998 and included the single "Hunny Luv". Despite plans for a second album in 2000, Booya Music dissolved, halting its release. Pappa Bear's activity decreased significantly afterward, though he posted new tracks on his MySpace page in 2009, including a cover of Falco's "Jeanny" and announced a comeback in 2010.
