Pseudopod, an American rock band formed in 1998 in Los Angeles, California, USA, consisted of Kevin Carlberg on vocals and acoustic guitar, Ross Grant on lead guitar, Tim McGregor on percussion, Brian Fox on bass, and Matt Keegan on saxophone. Pseudopod, all college students studying music at UCLA, released the first CD Pod (1998) while still in school. Their breakthrough came in 2000 when they won Rolling Stone's MUSICOMANIA: Best College Band in America contest, besting over 1,000 other bands. With the prize money, Pseudopod created the demo CD Rest Assured (2001). Signed to Interscope Records, they released the debut self-titled album Pseudopod (2002). Pseudopod built a reputation for energetic live performances and a loyal fanbase that shared bootlegs of their shows. They toured with notable acts such as OAR, Blues Traveler, and Maroon 5. Pseudopod disbanded in 2003.
