Tim Mead, born in 1981 in Chelmsford, Essex, is an English countertenor who began his musical journey as a treble in the choir of Chelmsford Cathedral. He studied cello and piano at the Junior Department of Trinity College of Music and completed a choral scholarship at King’s College, Cambridge. After postgraduate training at the Royal College of Music under Robin Blaze, he launched his recording career with Bach's Matthäus Passion (2022) with Pygmalion under Raphaël Pichon and Beauteous Softness with La Nuova Musica (2023). He has collaborated with conductors William Christie and Ivor Bolton and performed at the BBC Proms.
