Darryl Rhoades was born on June 7, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky, and is an American singer, drummer, and comedian. His career began in 1968 as the drummer for the cover band Celestial Voluptuous Banana. In 1975, he founded the 12-piece Hahavishnu Orchestra, a musical comedy troupe that performed nationally until 1978 and opened for the Sex Pistols during their debut United States show in January 1978. His debut album, Burgers From Heaven (1979), featured the title track, which was later used in the film Fast Food (1988). He released subsequent albums, including Better Dead Than Mellow (1985), The Lean Years 1950-1994 (1994), and the multi-genre album The Last Goodbye (2017). He worked with musicians such as Brendan O'Brien and Rick Richards, performed stand-up comedy, and on September 12, 2009, reunited the Hahavishnu Orchestra for a celebration in Atlanta, Georgia. In April 2024, he published his memoir, The Road to Almost... The Lean Years 1950–2024.
