Sylvie Valayre, born October 10, 1956 in Paris, France, is a French soprano opera singer. After meeting Placido Domingo during Otello, she won the first prize in singing at the Conservatoire de Paris. Valayre's operatic debut included the role of Maria Malibran in La Malibran at the Opéra de Toulon in 1983. She performed in major operas like La Traviata, Tosca, and Norma. Her international acclaim grew with performances at venues like Covent Garden, La Scala, San Francisco Opera, and the Met in New York. Valayre's extensive repertoire allowed her to tackle diverse roles from Mozart to Strauss. In 2018, she retired from the operatic stage to teach at the École normale de musique de Paris. Her discography includes recordings such as Le Chateau des Carpathes (1992) and Macbeth (2006).
