Kōzō Murashita, born as 村下 孝蔵 on February 28, 1953, in Minamata, Kumamoto, Japan, was a Japanese singer-songwriter. His music career began with the release of his debut album Sore zore no Kaze in 1979 on an independent label. Murashita's breakthrough came with his single "Hatsukoi" in 1983, which was later covered by several artists including Hiroko Mita and Yuka Imai. This song became a cultural milestone, being remade for various anime series and films. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Murashita released numerous albums, including Hatsukoi ~Asaki yumemishi~ (1983), 歌人—ソングコレクション— (1984), and 林檎と檸檬〜村下孝蔵ベストセレクション (1995). His work spanned various genres within pop music, showcasing his versatility as a singer-songwriter. Murashita's career was marked by notable collaborations and the release of several compilations and live albums posthumously. He died on June 24, 1999, following a brain hemorrhage sustained during a rehearsal. His legacy continues through numerous posthumous releases, including 同窓會 (1999) and しのびあるきのたそがれに (1999), which have kept his music alive for new generations of fans.
