Michael B. Tucker, also known as Mickey Tucker, was born on April 28, 1941, in Durham, North Carolina, and is an American jazz pianist and organist who began playing at six and performed in high‑school bands with Grady Tate. After teaching in the South, he moved to New York City in 1964, worked with Damita Jo and James Moody, then entered jazz in 1969, releasing Triplicity (1975) and Sojourn (1977) on Xanadu, followed by Mister Mysterious (1978) and Blues in Five Dimensions (1989) on SteepleChase. He collaborated with Rahsaan Roland Kirk and George Benson, and served as music director for Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, before relocating to Melbourne, Australia, in 1989, where he taught at the Victorian College of the Arts.
