Farewell Dear Ghost is an Austrian indie pop band from Vienna established in 2013. The ensemble was founded by singer-songwriter Philipp Szalay, who was born in 1989. Szalay received early training on the guitar and recorded a self-released project in 2006 with Paul Plut. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording We Colour the Night (2013) through the label Schoenwetter Schallplatten. The work reached professional recognition for the single “Fire” (2013), which reached number 1 on the FM4 charts and number 9 on the annual FM4 Top 100. Farewell Dear Ghost performed as a support act for the ensemble The Naked and Famous and completed professional tours in China and Korea. Their discography included the extended play Skin (2016) through the label Ink Music followed by the studio recording Neon Nature (2017). The group reached wider visibility for the tracks “Pink Noise” (2017) and “Hollywood Dreaming” (2017). In 2018, Farewell Dear Ghost reached professional recognition after receiving the FM4 Award at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards. In 2026, the current lineup consists of Szalay, guitarist Alexander Hackl, and drummer Andreas Födinger.
