For Against is an American post-punk band from Lincoln, Nebraska, formed in 1984. The group consisted of Jeffrey Runnings, Harry Dingman III, and Gregory Hill. Their debut release was the single “Autocrat” / “It's a Lie” (1985). Their first album, Echelons (1987), was followed by the album December (1988). Their recordings include the albums Aperture (1993), Mason's California Lunchroom (1995), and Shelf Life (1997). The band toured in the United States and Europe and released the album Coalesced (2002). Subsequent recordings include the albums Shade Side Sunny Side (2008) and Never Been (2009). Runnings passed away in 2025.
