Jürg Frey, born on May 15, 1953 in Aarau, Switzerland, is a Swiss composer and clarinettist. He studied clarinet at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève and composition under Urs Peter Schneider in Bern. Frey co-founded the Lenzburg Music Forum and served as artistic director of the 'Moments Musicaux' concert series for more than ten years. He trained in Basel as a teacher of the Alexander Technique. Frey's compositions are characterized by sparse, quiet soundscapes and exploration of silence. Notable works include String Quartets (2006), Landschaft Mit Wörtern (2009), and Weites Land, Tiefe Zeit, Räume 1 - 8 (2010). He was a prize winner at the Boswil International Composition Seminar in 1991.
