Douwe Eisenga, born in 1961 in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, is a Dutch composer and pianist. He began his musical career in the 1980s writing music for theater, film, and video productions. From 1990 to 1996, Eisenga studied composition at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen under Julius Ament and Wim Dirriwachter. His breakthrough came with the release of his album Requiem 1953 in 2003, a composition commissioned by the Dutch government for the 50th anniversary of the 1953 flood disaster. This work was premiered at the memorial ceremony and has since become one of his most recognized pieces. Eisenga's compositions often blend various musical styles, including pop music, twelve-tone techniques, Baroque music, and Eastern-inspired cyclic patterns. Notable works include "For Mattia," a piano composition released in 2019 that has been featured annually on the Dutch 'Classical Music Top 400' since its release.
