The Strikers were a New York City-based funk and disco group that emerged in the 1980s, comprising Darryl Gibbs, Howie Young, Milton Brown, Robert Rodriguez, Ruben Faison, Robert Gilliom, and Willie Slaughter. The band’s first breakthrough came with the 1981 single "Body Music", which reached number 4 on the U.S. dance chart, followed by "Strike It Up". That year, the group issued their self‑titled album, under Prelude Records, which included the charting tracks "Body Music" and "Inch by Inch" (the latter peaking at number 15 on the dance chart). Throughout the 1980s, the band issued a string of singles such as "Contagious" (1982) and "Check Out The Groove" (1987). The Strikers released a compilation of remixes titled 12" Mixes in 1991, issued by Unidisc, which compiled their dance‑floor staples for a new generation of listeners.
