Jan van der Crabben, a Belgian baritone singer born in 1964 in Genk, Belgium, studied music at the Etterbeek Academy under Aquiles Delle Vigne and later at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He performed both nationally and internationally, collaborating with notable figures such as Pierre Bartholomée, Shalev Ad-El, Andrew Lawrence-King, and Alexander Rahbari. Van der Crabben's discography included multiple CDs featuring baroque and classical works by composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Händel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Franz Schubert. He has also worked extensively with Sigiswald Kuijken's La Petite Bande, notably appearing in a concert of Bach cantatas at the Rheingau Musik Festival in 2005. In addition to his recordings, van der Crabben won prizes for Best Interpretation of a French Song and Best Contemporary Music at the 1990 Concours International d'Oratorio et de Lied in Clermont-Ferrand.
