The group formed in 2003 with Sean Staples, Jim Fitting, Ry Cavanaugh, Billy Beard, Kimon Kirk, and Dinty Child, who met during Sunday nights at the Toad pub in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The group followed these with TableTop People Vol. 3: Beertown (2007), Diving for Gold (2009), Love and Dirt (2012), Pack Up The Circus (2015), Great Shakes (2016), Live at the Haybarn Theatre (2018), and Northeast (2019). The collective's history includes collaborations with musical guests, including Rose Polenzani, Patty Griffin, Jennifer Kimball, and Aoife O'Donovan. Its achievements include multiple Boston Music Awards, winning Best Folk Act in 2005 and Best Live Residency in 2011, alongside consecutive nominations for Americana Artist of the Year from 2016 to 2021.
