Weep was formed in 2008 by singer‑guitarist Eric "Doc" Hammer, who had previously played with Requiem in White and Mors Syphilitica. The band’s debut album, Never Ever, was released in 2008 through Astro‑Base Go Recordings, establishing their blend of ethereal wave, shoegaze, and synthpop. Subsequent releases include Worn Thin (2010), Alate (2012), and Weep (2014) on Organs of Generation. Notable tracks such as "Lay There and Drown," "Hole," and a cover of Bauhaus' "The Passion of Lovers" were issued as digital singles in 2011. The group continued to produce material, including the 2021 album Too Much Nothing and the 2025 release Romantic Tales of Paraplegia, which showcased Weep's expansive sound and Hammer's gravelly vocals.
