Macaco Bong is a Brazilian instrumental rock band formed in 2004 in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso. Evolving from a quartet into a power trio in 2005, the group achieved a breakthrough with its 2008 virtual album, Artista Igual Pedreiro, distributed for free by the label Trama. The release received critical praise from Rolling Stone Brasil and Estadão, and led to guitarist Bruno Kayapy being named one of the magazine's 70 Brazilian guitar masters. The group followed with the EP Verdão e Verdinho (2011), which won the 2012 Dynamite Prize for best instrumental album, and the second studio album, This is Rolê (2012), recorded in Belo Horizonte with former Os Mutantes member Túlio Mourão. Following lineup changes in 2013, Kayapy reformatted the lineup with bassist Julito Cavalcante and drummer Daniel Fumega to release the albums Macumba Afrocimética (2015) and Remacumba (2015). The band later released the self-titled album Macaco Bong (2016) through the Sinewave label and Deixa Quieto (2017).
