Cartoon Network is an American cable television channel that launched on 1 October 1992. It is the flagship property of The Cartoon Network, Inc., owned by the Global Linear Networks division of Warner Bros. Discovery, and primarily broadcasts animated programming aimed at children aged 6 to 12, alongside the adult-oriented evening block Adult Swim. The channel originated from Turner Broadcasting System's 1991 acquisition of the Hanna-Barbera animation library, with Ted Turner selecting Betty Cohen to develop the network; she became its first president upon launch. Notable original series produced through its in-house studio, Cartoon Network Studios, include Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, and Johnny Bravo. Cartoon Network has also been home to several musical acts, both fictional and real - particularly Grojband - fronted by Corey Riffin, who turns his sister Trina's diary entries into song lyrics with help from bandmates Laney, Kin, and Kon; the series premiered in 2013 and ran on Cartoon Network in the United States. Another fictional act was Dethklok, the virtual melodic death metal band at the center of the Adult Swim series Metalocalypse. In the early 2000s, Japanese pop-rock duo Puffy AmiYumi recorded the theme song for Teen Titans in 2003, a partnership that led to their own hybrid animated and live-action series, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, on the network. Years later, the band B.E.R. became an unlikely viral phenomenon through Teen Titans Go!, where their song "The Night Begins to Shine" grew from a background gag into a recurring, fan-favorite centerpiece of the show.
