The Modified Toy Orchestra is an experimental music group from Birmingham, England. Founded by Brian Duffy as a one-man project, the ensemble initially focused on sampling sounds from toys to create electronic music. The breakthrough moment came when Duffy modified a Texas Instruments Speak & Spell, realizing he could turn these toys into instruments through circuit bending. This led to performances using modified educational spelling toys and other sound-making devices. In 2006, the Modified Toy Orchestra expanded to a band, including members Laurence Hunt, Darren Joyce, Mike Johnston, Chris Plant, Sean Tighe, and Graeme Rose. The group released their debut album Toygopop on Warm Circuit Records that same year. Notable performances include appearances at the Sónar festival in Barcelona and the Supersonic festival in the United Kingdom. Their live sets have been broadcast on Resonance FM and BBC Radio 1. In 2009, they released their second album Earth One.
