Il Fondamento is a Belgian period-instrument orchestra founded in 1989 by oboist Paul Dombrecht. The ensemble dedicated itself to historically informed performances of Baroque music using original instruments or their replicas. Initially formed by Dombrecht and his musician friends, the orchestra aimed to revive the sounds of the 18th and 19th centuries with authentic stylistic accuracy. In 1995, the group was officially recognized as "Ambassadeur culturel de la Flandre" by the Ministry of the Flemish Community. The orchestra released numerous recordings on labels such as Passacaille, Accent, Fuga Libera, Christophorus, and Naive. Notable albums include Johann Adolph Hasse's Requiem en Ut majeur (1993), Jean-Sébastien Bach's Johannes-Passion (1996), Georg Philipp Telemann's Tafelmusik - Part III (1999), and Tomaso Albinoni's Concerti con Oboe (2009). The discography also featured collaborations with artists such as Greta De Reyghere and the choir La Sfera Del Canto.
