Icarus the Owl is an American alternative rock ensemble from Portland established in 2009. The group consists of the musicians Joey Rubenstein, Tim Brown, Rob Bernknopf, and Jake Thomas-Low. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by alternative rock, post-hardcore, and math rock. The ensemble was founded by the musician Rubenstein who recorded the debut studio recording The Spotless Mind (2009) in early 2009 with the drummer Mark Haines. The recording was released on May 28, 2009 on the label Interlace Audio and featured the musician Mike Black on bass. Their recording career included the extended play Qualia (2011) and the studio recording Love Always, Leviathan (2012) released on June 21, 2012. Icarus the Owl achieved professional recognition for the eponymous studio recording Icarus the Owl (2014) released on February 4, 2014. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for signing with the label Blue Swan Records in 2015. Their discography included the studio recording Pilot Waves (2015) and the studio recording Rearm Circuits (2017) released on December 1, 2017. Icarus the Owl achieved professional recognition for the song “Nuclear Towns” (2012) and the song “Failed Transmissions” (2017). They achieved professional recognition for performing at the Vans Warped Tour in 2013 and on tours with the ensemble A Lot Like Birds and the ensemble Hail the Sun.
