John Baine, known professionally as Attila the Stockbroker, and born on October 21, 1957, is an English punk poet, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter. Inspired by his father’s amateur poetry and the punk subculture of the late 1970s, he began performing solo after stints with bands such as English Disease and Brighton Riot Squad. Attila the Stockbroker adopted his stage name during a brief career as a stockbroker's clerk. His first performance under his new moniker occurred at Bush Fair Playbarn in Harlow on September 8, 1980 and released Cocktails EP with Cherry Red Records in 1982. He continued to tour extensively and publish poetry. Notable works include Ranting at the Nation (1983) and Sawdust and Empire (1984).
