Noella Wiyaala Nwadei, professionally known as Wiyaala, is a Ghanaian Afro-pop singer-songwriter born in Wa, Upper West Ghana, in 1986. She began performing at age five and received her first singing lessons from her mother. In 2009, she recorded her debut studio album, Tuma, in the Sissala language. After reaching the finals of the reality show Starz of the Future in 2011, she won the Vodafone Icons contest in 2012 as a member of the group Black N Peach. Wiyaala left the band in 2013 to pursue a solo career with Djimba World Records, releasing the single “Make Me Dance” in 2013. That same year, she released the single “Rock My Body”, which won the awards for Most Promising Artiste in Africa and Revelation of the African Continent at the All Africa Music Awards in 2014. In 2014, she released her self-titled debut studio album, Wiyaala, and her song “Africa” won the Music Video of the Year award at the All Africa Music Awards in 2015. She toured Europe and North America in 2015, performed at the WOMAD UK festival in 2016, and released her second studio album, Sissala Goddess, in 2018. Wiyaala was also included on the BBC's 100 Women list in 2024.
