Michael Glen Block, born on May 25, 1982 in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American cellist, singer, composer, and arranger. He studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and The Juilliard School. Block has played alongside Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O'Connor's Appalachia Waltz trio and collaborated with numerous artists, including Bobby McFerrin, Lenny Kravitz, Shakira, and The National. He also served as musical director for the Silk Road Ensemble. His albums include Where the Soul Never Dies (2021), a duo album with Indian tabla player Sandeep Das, and Machines that Fly (2022). He is also an educator, becoming an Associate Professor of Music at the Berklee College of Music in 2012 and joining the faculty of the New England Conservatory in 2018.
