Maciej Obara Quartet is a Polish-Norwegian jazz group formed in 2012 by Polish saxophonist and composer Maciej Obara. The lineup consists of Obara on alto saxophone, Dominik Wania on piano, Ole Morten Vågan on double bass, and Gard Nilssen on drums. The quartet developed through the Take Five: Europe program and performed together for the first time in Katowice in 2012. Their early albums included Komeda (2013) and Live at Manggha (2013), followed by Unloved (2017), their debut for ECM Records. Unloved received the Fryderyk Award for Jazz Album of the Year in 2018. The quartet continued with Three Crowns (2019), which incorporated compositions by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki alongside Obara’s own material. In 2019, the group won the BMW Welt Jazz Award in Munich. Their fourth ECM album, Frozen Silence, was released in 2023.
