A Witness is an English alternative rock and post-punk band formed in 1982 in Stockport, United Kingdom. The group was established by the musicians Rick Aitken, Vince Hunt, Keith Curtis, and Noel Kilbride. They achieved recognition through the support of the disc jockey John Peel and the inclusion of the track “Sharpened Sticks” (1986) on the C86 compilation. Their debut EP, Loudhailer Songs (1984), reached number 9 on the UK Indie charts. The band's discography includes the album I Am John's Pancreas (1986), which reached number 18. In 1988, they released the US compilation Sacred Cow Heart. The ensemble became inactive in 1989 following the death of Aitken. Their final recording, the single “(I Love You) Mr Disposable Razors” (1989), was dedicated to his memory. The group resumed activity in 2013 with a lineup featuring Hunt, Alan Brown, and Simon Williams.
