Thomas Arsenault, known professionally as Mas Ysa, and born on August 28, 1983, in Montreal, Canada, is a musician. He began writing electronic music during high school while living in São Paulo, Brazil, and later studied Modern Composition at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. In 2012, Arsenault collaborated with Rashaun Mitchell Dance Company on the score for Interface. Adopting the Mas Ysa name, he started playing shows in Brooklyn in 2012 and toured the southern United States with Deerhunter. In 2013, Pitchfork Media debuted his first publicly released track "Why", which was later designated as one of their Best New Tracks. His debut EP Worth was released in 2014 by MapleMusic Recordings in Canada and Downtown Records worldwide, receiving positive reviews. Mas Ysa supported various bands, including Purity Ring, Delorean, EMA, and Hundred Waters, and performed at notable festivals such as Primavera Sound and the Pitchfork Music Festival.
