Detonation, a Dutch death metal band from the Netherlands, was founded in 1997 under the name Infernal Dream by Koen Romeijn on vocals/guitar, Mike Ferguson on guitar, and Thomas Kalksma on drums. The band changed its name to Detonation in 1998 and released its first recordings on the Crushed Skull Compilation Volume 1 CD through Skull Crusher Records in 1999. In January 2000, they released their debut MCD, Lost Euphoria, followed by their first studio album, An Epic Defiance, in 2002. The album was re-released worldwide in 2003 after Detonation signed with Osmose Productions. Their subsequent albums include Portals to Uphobia (2005), Emission Phase (2007), and Reprisal (2011). The band underwent several line-up changes, including the departure of original drummer Thomas Kalksma in 2008. Detonation announced a hiatus in 2012 but reformed in 2013 with an original bassist and Matthieu Boer as the replacement drummer for Thomas.
