Tod Dockstader, born on March 20, 1932, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, was an American electronic music composer and sound designer. He initially studied painting and film at the University of Minnesota before moving to Hollywood and working as a sound engineer. Dockstader's first record, Eight Electronic Pieces, was released in 1961. In the mid-1960s, Owl Records released four albums of his work, including Quatermass. His compositions were used in Federico Fellini’s film Fellini Satyricon (1969). Dockstader formed Westport Communications Group with Fred Hertz in the late 1960s. In the early 1990s, Starkland re-released his out-of-print Owl records, bringing significant acclaim. He returned to music at the start of the 21st century, adopting computer composition. Dockstader died in Arlington, Massachusetts, on February 27, 2015. In 2015, From The Archives, which premiered 15 works found on Dockstader's private computer after his death, was released.
