Mascarimirì, an Italian musical group formed in Muro Leccese, began with brothers Claudio “Cavallo” Giagnotti and Cosimo Giagnotti, both of Roma origin. The project is known for its fusion of traditional Pizzica Pizzica Salentina with electronic sounds and influences from Mediterranean and Gypsy musical traditions. Giagnotti developed the concept of Tradinnovazione, centered on combining tradition with musical innovation and experimentation. Mascarimiri has released thirteen studio albums and has maintained an international concert schedule for more than 25 years. Its musical productions include Gitanistan (2011), Tam! (2014), Pizzica Dance Hall Party (2016), and Punk D'Amore (2017). The project has collaborated with artists including DJ Click, Papet J, Suggs McPherson of Madness, Hakim Hamadouche, DJ Panko, Bombino, Eugenio Bennato, Mauro Pagani, Ludovico Einaudi, Goran Bregovic, Joe Bastianich, and Sud Sound System, among others. In 2014, the group provided music for the documentary Gitanistan - The Imaginary State of the Roma - Salentine Families and later created original songs for the film Taranta on the Road, directed by Salvatore Allocca. The group also participated in the television series Italia in viaggio, produced by Joe Bastianich.
