Mütterlein is a French dark wave and dark folk solo project from Brittany, formed in 2014 by musician Marion Leclercq after her departure from the Lyon-based post-hardcore band Overmars. Initially considering leaving music, Leclercq later began collaborating with Christophe Chavanon of Kerwax studio, leading to the creation of Mütterlein. The project's name references Nico’s song from the album Desertshore, reflecting themes of loss and grief. Mütterlein released the EP and debut album Orphans of the Black Sun in 2016 on Sundust Records, followed by a split album with Limbes in 2021. The second album, Bring Down the Flags, was released in 2021 through Debemur Morti Productions.
