Minor Empire is a Turkish-Canadian progressive music band from Toronto, Ontario, established in 2010. The ensemble was founded by guitarist and producer Ozan Boz and vocalist Ozgu Ozman and reached professional recognition for a musical style that combines psychedelic rock with traditional Turkish music. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Second Nature (2011). The work reached professional recognition after being described as “successfully dreamy” by the publication Exclaim! and receiving the world group of the year award at the 2011 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Minor Empire reached wider visibility in 2012 after receiving the award for world artist or group of the year at the Canadian Independent Music Awards. Their discography included the studio recording Uprooted (2017), which reached professional recognition after being named a favorite release of the year by the publication The Arts Fuse. In 2018, the ensemble reached professional recognition for nominations at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and the Independent Music Awards.
