Julie Claden, known professionally as Jewly, and born on 17 July 1981 in Mulhouse, France, is a singer-songwriter. She began playing alto at six, violin at eight, and guitar at 16, while studying pharmacy. Jewly’s first public breakthrough came with the 2006 single "Terre Permise" released to support UNICEF, followed by her 2011 EP No Shoes. Her first studio album as Jewly Bang Bang Bang was launched in 2014, and in 2017 she released Drugstore, recorded in England with the studio of the Stranglers. In 2020, she issued the concept album Toxic, which Rolling Stone described as a “stage‑level” work and positioned her among France’s alternative rock pillars. Jewly’s career also included the 2017 savoirCguérir campaign against hepatitis C, co‑writing anthemes with Phil Spalding, and performances at festivals such as Aluna and Ecaussystème.
