Forbidden Site, a French black metal avant-garde group from Grenoble, was formed in 1993 by Arnault Destal and Romaric Sangars. Their debut release was the demo Catharsis in 1994. The band gained significant attention with their first studio album, Sturm und Drang, released in 1997, which blended black metal with gothic elements. Forbidden Site's second album, Astralgeist, was released in 1999 on the German label Solistitium Records, featuring a diverse sound with classical instruments and choral vocals. The group disbanded in 2003 following a farewell concert at La Locomotive in Paris. Their influence on the extreme music scene remains significant, with Anorexia Nervosa covering "La Chouanne" from Astralgeist in 2005 as a tribute.
