René Pawlowitz, born in 1975 in Frankfurt/Oder, Germany, is a techno musician and DJ known professionally as Shed. He discovered electronic music in the early 1990s, transitioning from rave and UK hardcore to Chicago house and Detroit techno. In 2003, he founded Soloaction Records and released his debut EP Red Planet Express under the pseudonym Shed. His first album, Shedding the Past, was released in 2008 on Ostgut Ton and ranked second in De:Bug's readers' poll for Best Album of the Year. Subsequent albums include The Traveller (2010), The Killer (2012), The Final Experiment (2017), Oderbruch (2019), Towards East (2022), and Rave Echoes (2026). René Pawlowitz has also collaborated with Modeselektor and Marcel Dettmann under the name ATOL.
