Norman Carl Odam, known professionally as The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, was born on September 5, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas. He began his musical journey during high school, inspired by Chet Atkins to learn guitar and bugle. His breakthrough came with the song "Paralyzed", recorded in 1968 and released on his own Psycho-Suave label. The track gained regional popularity and was picked up by Mercury Records, leading to an appearance on NBC's Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. In 1973, NASA used "Paralyzed" to wake up its space crew, but the song was later banned from space due to its distracting nature. The Legendary Stardust Cowboy continued recording intermittently, and David Bowie covered his song "I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spaceship" on his Heathen album.
