The Eastern Sea is an American indie rock band founded by Matthew Hines in Austin, Texas. The project began as a bedroom recording venture before Hines recruited Austin musicians. The self-released EPs The Eastern Sea I (2008) and II (2010) were later combined into The Eastern Sea (2011), which attracted national attention for tracks including “The Snow” and “The Name.” In 2012, the band released Plague, recorded amid studio closures, earning critical acclaim and the Number 1 spot on OVRLD’s album-of-the-year list. That year also saw the release of First Christmas. The Witness followed in 2015. The band also performed at Austin City Limits, SXSW, and other festivals.
