Matt the Electrician is an American singer-songwriter based in Austin, Texas. Born Matt Sever in San Francisco, California, he began performing in coffee houses at age 15 and entered the Austin music scene in 1996 as an open mic host at Flipnotics Coffeespace. His stage name originated from his former occupation as an electrician, a job he often referenced early in his professional life. By the release of his fourth studio album, Long Way Home (2004), Sever had transitioned to a full-time musical career. His recording history included 12 albums through 2017, featuring the studio recordings Baseball Song (1998), Home (1999), Made for Working (2003), Animal Boy (2009) and The Doubles (2017). He also issued the live recording Playing Live at Café Mundi (2007). During his career, Sever has shared the stage with artists including Tom Freund, The Weepies and Bob Schneider.
