Julio Cesar Navarrete Pulido, known as Julio Nava, was born on May 9, 1977, in Cali, Colombia, and began his artistic journey as a singer influenced by Spanish rock. He gained prominence in 1996 when he joined the Colombian rock band Santa Sangre, contributing to hits such as "Maldita flor" and "El cumpleaños del viento". After leaving the band, he launched a solo career with Julio Nava (2002) and followed with La vida es gratis (2003). The 2006 album No tengas más prisa was named by Billboard as one of the "Top 10 Best Albums of 2006". He portrayed Tumba in the Fox series Cumbia Ninja and led the Por las Víctimas, por la Paz campaign across Colombia.
