Bästard was a French alternative rock group from Lyon, formed in 1993 following the dissolution of Deity Guns. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1994, and they followed it with Radiant, Discharged, Crossed-off in 1996. In 1998, they collaborated with Yann Tiersen for a split EP, which was released on April 14, 1998, before disbanding the same year. Post-separation, Éric Aldéa pursued solo projects and collaborations, which include Saturno o Cipolla? (2002) and the film soundtrack Kabul (2005). The group reunited in 2005 for a one-off concert at Le Confort moderne in Poitiers, and they reformed in 2006 under the name Zëro to release the album Joke Box. The group was one of the leading bands of the French underground rock scene of the 1990s, pioneering post-rock and influencing numerous French groups. Notable compilations include The Acoustic Machine - Complete Recordings 1993-1996 (2002).
