Ataraxie, a death doom and funeral doom band, was founded in Rouen, France, in 2000 by Jonathan Théry. The band initially consisted of Théry on vocals and bass, Clément on guitar, Pierre Sénécal on drums, and Sylvain Estève on guitar. After early performances, Clément left the group in June 2001 and was replaced by Frédéric Patte-Brasseur. Ataraxie gained a strong reputation as a live act, performing across Europe with bands like Morgion, Mourning Beloveth, and Evoken before releasing their first demo, The Other Path, in January 2003. Their debut album, Slow Transcending Agony, was released in 2005 via Weird Truth Productions. Subsequent releases include Anhédonie (2008), Project X (2011), L'Être et la nausée (2013), and Résignés (2019).
