Victor Hugo Díaz was born on August 10, 1927, in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, and was an Argentine musician and harmonica player, known for his folk music, tango, and jazz. His career began in 1936, and he became one of Argentina’s prominent folk performers, later gaining international recognition. He performed with and alongside musicians including Louis Armstrong, Oscar Peterson, Toots Thielemans, and Larry Adler, and toured extensively across Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and the United States. He also recorded with artists such as Waldo de los Ríos and appeared posthumously on the soundtrack of the 2007 film The Counterfeiters. Among his notable compositions are Zamba del ángel, No la hallo, El perro, gato, Zamba mía, and Zamba de los cuatro vientos. His legacy was further explored in the 2021 book Hugo Díaz, a Harmonious Life and the 2007 documentary A los cuatro vientos. He passed away on October 23, 1977, at the age of 50.
