Ian Prowse, born January 10, 1964, in Chester, England, is an English singer-songwriter. He began his career in 1989 with the formation of the band Pele, which released Fireworks and The Sport of Kings under M&G Records/Polydor and completed nine UK tours before disbanding in 1996. In 1999, he founded the band Amsterdam, which signed with Beat Crazy in 2004 and released The Journey (2005) and Arm in Arm (2008). The single “The Journey” reached number 32 on the UK Singles Chart, and the song “Does This Train Stop on Merseyside” was featured as the centerpiece of Christy Moore's 2009 album Listen. Prowse collaborated with Elvis Costello and moved into solo work with the albums Who Loves Ya Baby? (2014), Companeros (2015), Here I Lie (2019), the retrospective The Story of Ian Prowse (2020), One Hand on the Starry Plough (2021), and New Names (2026).
